The coronation of George V and his wife, Mary, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Thursday 22 June 1911. This was the second of four such events held during the 20th century and the last to be attended by royal representatives of the great continental European empires.

The coronation of King George V took place at Westminster Abbey on June 22, 1911. Both Tuxen and John Henry Frederick Bacon were asked to record the event (see RCIN 407572). Once again Tuxen was seated towards the front of the Abbey, in a similar position to where he had observed and sketched the coronation of King Edward VII (RCINs 404466.

Coronation King George and Queen Mary were crowned in Westminster Abbey on 22nd June 1911. They presented new hangings for the High Altar which are still in use.

This Supertunica was made in 1911 for the Coronation of King George V, which took place on 22nd June 1911, by Wilkinson and Son, Robe-makers and Tailors. The Supertunica has subsequently also been worn by King George VI at his Coronation on 12th May 1937 and by Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953.

The reported cost was just under half a million pounds; three times what King George V's coronation had amounted to in 1911. The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey, with all the pomp and ceremony that had been part of George V's coronation, 26 years before. While crowds lined the streets to watch the procession to Buckingham Palace.
